Do Yoda Proud: Meditation 101
Filed under meditation, self-improvementAug 13Meditation refers to a state where your body and mind are consciously relaxed and focused. Practitioners of this art report increased awareness, focus, and concentration, as well as a more positive outlook in life.
Meditation is most commonly associated with monks, mystics and other spiritual disciplines. However, you don’t have to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits. And you don’t even have to be in a special place to practice it. You could even try it in your own living room!
Although there are many different approaches to meditation, the fundamental principles remain the same. The most important among these principles is that of removing obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming the mind with a deep sense of focus. This clears the mind of debris and prepares it for a higher quality of activity.
The negative thoughts you have – those of noisy neighbors, bossy officemates, that parking ticket you got, and unwanted spam are said to contribute to the “polluting” of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the “cleansing” of the mind so that it may focus on deeper, more meaningful thoughts.
Some practitioners even shut out all sensory input ñ no sights, no sounds, and nothing to touch ñ and try to detach themselves from the commotion around them. You may now focus on a deep, profound thought if this is your goal. It may seem deafening at first, since we are all too accustomed to constantly hearing and seeing things, but as you continue this exercise you will find yourself becoming more aware of everything around you.
If you find the meditating positions you see on television threatening ñ those with impossibly arched backs, and painful-looking contortions ñ you need not worry. The principle here is to be in a comfortable position conducive to concentration. This may be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking. If the position allows you to relax and focus, then that would be a good starting point. While sitting or standing, the back should be straight, but not tense or tight. In other positions, the only no-no is slouching and falling asleep.
Loose, comfortable clothes help a lot in the process since tight fitting clothes have a tendency to choke you up and make you feel tense.
The place you perform meditation should have a soothing atmosphere. It may be in your living room, or bedroom, or any place that you feel comfortable in. You might want an exercise mat if you plan to take on the more challenging positions (if you feel more focused doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release). You may want to have the place arranged so that it is soothing to your senses.
Silence helps most people relax and meditate, so you may want a quiet, isolated area far from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine. Pleasing scents also help in that regard, so stocking up on aromatic candles isn’t such a bad idea either.
The monks you see on television making those monotonous sounds are actually performing their mantra. This, in simple terms, is a short creed, a simple sound which, for these practitioners, holds a mystic value.
You do not need to perform such; however, it would pay to note that focusing on repeated actions such as breathing, and humming help the practitioner enter a higher state of consciousness.
The principle here is focus. You could also try focusing on a certain object or thought, or even, while keeping your eyes open, focus on a single sight.
One sample routine would be to, while in a meditative state, silently name every part of you body and focusing your consciousness on that part. While doing this you should be aware of any tension on any part of your body. Mentally visualize releasing this tension. It works wonders.
In all, meditation is a relatively risk-free practice and its benefits are well worth the effort (or non-effort – remember we’re relaxing).
Studies have shown that meditation does bring about beneficial physiologic effects to the body. And there has been a growing consensus in the medical community to further study the effects of such. So in the near future, who knows, that mystical, esoteric thing we call meditation might become a science itself!

Developing Your Intuition
Filed under self-improvementAug 12ve you had that experience when all of a sudden you just had this huge hunch that something is about to happen, and to your surprise, that intuition was eventually translated to reality?
When you feel strongly about something without logical basis to it, that’s called intuition. It comes in three impressions: clairvoyance or “the third eye”, sensing clearly and feeling through listening.
Clairvoyance is when your eye goes beyond what it can see. This is when you know what is happening somewhere.
Sensing clearly is basically what we refer to as “hunch” or “gut feel.” This is the time when you are overwhelmed with a feeling and you can’t explain it and all you can say is “I just know.”
On the other hand, feeling through listening or clairaudience is being able to “listen” between the lines. Intuition also happens at times when a certain sound, whatever it is – be it a car’s honk or a bird’s twitting – ushers in an intense feeling.
They say only a number of people are gifted with intuition. Astrologers even insist that people born under the Scorpio or Pisces signs are naturally intuitive it almost borders on E.S.P. But studies have been sprouting left and right that proclaim that anyone can develop intuition.
Why the need to develop intuition, you ask? Why not let your emotional and psychological state as it is? First and foremost, intuition promotes good communication. It makes you more sensitive to the people around you; it often keeps you from hurting those you love because you are intuitive enough to understand them. Intuition also makes you far more creative than ever. Intuition means releasing more creative juices for any means of expression. Lastly, intuition has a healing power. This healing power is not in the physical sense, but in delving deep into your soul to eradicate some negative energy buried in it.
With that being said, are you ready to develop your intuition? Here are some ways to unlock this gift:
1. Hypnosis
Oh yes, get yourself hypnotized. Hypnosis is not limited to watching a pendulum move back and forth. Perform self-hypnosis or you can avail of hypnotic programs that can strengthen your intuition.
2. Meditation
Meditating means finding peace in yourself. If your mind and heart are cluttered with too many baggage and hurt, you wouldn’t be able to quiet down that part of you that could eventually initiate intuition. There are so many ways to meditate: take a yoga class, or just simply practice some breathing that could bring you straight to Zen.
3. Think positive!
A worry-free, fear-free state could do so much to improve your intuitive ability. By staying positive, you attract good energy that would be able to easily recognize imminent feelings and events.
4. Just let go.
What does this mean? If you are on the brink of making a huge decision, let go of all the inhibitions and head to a quiet place where you could find out where the letting go has brought you. Sometimes you just have to listen to the voice within you, and that voice wouldn’t come out unless you let go.
5. Never expect.
After letting go of the inhibitions and all those things that stop you from thinking and feeling clearly, never expect for an answer right away. Never expect that the “hunch” would fall on your lap immediately. Give it a little time then you’d just get surprised that — wham! — now you have your answer.
6. Believe in your first impressions.
When you see someone for the first time and think that he is a bit too arrogant for your taste, chances are that impression actually holds true. Most of the time, first impressions are brought by intuition.
7. Stay happy!
See? All you need to be intuitive is to stay happy! Happiness attracts immense power and such power includes intuition. In tapping your intuition, your motivation must be happiness and contentment. Given that premise, intuition will fall to you easily.
Intuition is helpful, because sometimes it leads you to something that cannot be achieved otherwise. A lot of lives have been saved by intuition alone. Decisions are easier done if armed by this gift. Develop intuition now and reap benefits you have never imagined.

Get Rid of Procrastination, Now!
Filed under self-improvementAug 11o you put off your work for later, only to find your deadlines steadily creeping in? Then you, my friend, are one of the millions of people afflicted by the procrastination virus. Procrastination is the biggest reason for loss of productivity and late output. Though many would not admit it, they would benefit greatly if they start their work on time.
For many people, putting off their work for later is more habit than desire. It can be so hard to get into a groove where starting your tasks in a timely fashion is a priority, especially if the consequences for being late are things that one can probably bear.
If you are one of these people, yet you desire to shake off your propensity for procrastination, then you have come to the right place. Here are a few tips to help you overcome this dilemma and become a more productive and reliable person.
1. Set schedules – It is very important that you have a list of activities to accomplish per day. This will help you realistically budget your time and resources. One of the cardinal sins people commit in regards to performing their tasks is to put off their work because they feel like there is so much time left. A journal, organizer, or calendar of events will help you plan and schedule your task so that you can start them promptly and finish them on time.
2. Save the Vacation for Later – Many people put their work off for later saying, “I’ll just have a little fun then buckle down to work later.” While it may be true that they may have more than enough time to accomplish their tasks, it would be better if they finished their work first and relax afterwards.
Wouldn’t relaxation be sweeter if it were after a taxing job? If you choose to lay back and relax before doing your tasks, you will be more prone to burnout and will have nothing exciting left to look forward to after accomplishing a task. It is always better to have slack period AFTER a job than before one, especially considering that people are wont to overusing their slack time. This is suicide if you are heading towards a deadline.
3. Never Underestimate Your Tasks – Sometimes procrastination sets in because people underestimate the resources, difficulty, and time spent for a particular task. They will usually say, “It’s just mowing the lawn, its easy; I could do it in a jiffy.” The problem is, no matter how trivial the task, it still takes time and resources to accomplish. If you underestimate a task, you will most likely set too little time to do it and schedule it too close to its deadline.
4. Don’t Allow Yourself to Get Comfortable Doing Nothing – It would definitely help if you kept a subconscious alarm whenever you are doing nothing. Get this alarm to remind you of things that may need to be done. This will help you foster the notion that jobs accomplished now means more time for relaxation later. However, even if this is the case, do not forget to put ample time in for rest and to remove all thoughts of troubles before hitting the sack. The trick here, however, is not to overdo you rest. There is a difference between resting and idling. Always set the right amount of time for rest and stick to that schedule.

Are you trying to find ways to improve confidence in yourself?
Achieving your goals would be simple if you had the confidence—the confidence to do things and the confidence in knowing that you can do whatever you want as long as you set your mind to it. Perhaps the biggest problem that a lot of people have these days is that they lack self-confidence. Whenever they want something, like a job or a big career move, they are quick to change their minds because they often have the notion that they are not capable of doing things. It is necessary to improve confidence if you want to aim for bigger things and you want to achieve these things.
This is how you improve confidence in yourself!
While it is important to keep in mind that not everyone who is self-confident gets everything they want, the difference is that they try to get what they want and even if they don’t get it, they don’t give up so easily. These people are usually more at peace with themselves because they know that they tried their best to achieve their goals so they don’t end up having regrets in the end.
You would know you have low self-confidence if you stop yourself from doing what you want because you think you are not capable or worthy. If this is the case, then you have to do something to improve confidence or you will forever be stuck with regrets and “what-ifs”. A life filled with regrets is not something anyone wants for themselves.
Self-confidence is actually something that is developed while you are young, which is why the responsibility to enhance a person’s confidence falls on the parents. If you grow up lacking confidence, it would be harder to achieve what you want in your life. This is why it is necessary to improve confidence while you are still young.
A person who has enough confidence would keep on trying to get what they want even if they constantly fail and if they don’t get it, they aim for something else. If you want to improve confidence, you can take self-confidence classes, there you can meet other people who have the same problem as you and you can participate in several activities to enhance your self-confidence. The problem with most people who lack self-confidence is that they criticize themselves too much, for them, nothing they do is ever good enough. If you are one of these people, then maybe you need to change something in you. You have to keep in mind that no one is perfect and that no person is capable of doing everything, however, if you have the confidence it would certainly make things easier to achieve what you want.
You too can soon have improve confidence in yourself!
You also have to keep in mind that to improve confidence, you have to be able to get rid of all your negative thoughts and constantly think of positive ones. The key to confidence is being satisfied with what you have and using all your skills and capabilities to your advantage, this will make it easier to achieve all your goals.

Simple Tips to Improve Confidence
Filed under improve confidenceJul 31Are you looking for easy ways to improve confidence in your everyday life? There are many ways to go about this, but you can help yourself feel more confident by making some simple changes. We will now discuss a few of these methods.
Focus on your breathing and make sure you are breathing deeply enough. Many people who suffer from anxiety and lack of confidence are shallow breathers. Taking longer and deeper breaths can make you feel more relaxed and confident. If you need help with this, there are books and courses that specialize in deep breathing. You could also try meditation or yoga.
Keep learning new skills, or practice ones you have given up in the past. No matter how old you are, learning is a way to stay young and interested in life. It also helps with confidence! It doesn’t matter if you practice sports, learning a language or cooking Indian food. Learn at your own pace, and don’t expect to be perfect. As you get past blocks and learn new skills, you will feel more confident.
Practice moving past your fears. If you have a serious phobia, you may need professional help. However, it’s normal to feel anxiety or even a certain level of fear when trying something new, changing your circumstances or entering an unfamiliar situation. The key is to not let this stop you! Confident people aren’t necessarily fearless, but they are in the habit of “feeling the fear and doing it anyway.” For example, if you are invited to a party where you don’t know many people and are thinking you may not want to go, just go and see what happens! The point is that anxiety can only stop you if you let it.
Keep in mind that your opinion is as valid as anyone else’s. The only exception to this is when it comes to specialized knowledge. Your dentist (hopefully!) knows more about teeth than you do, your auto mechanic knows more about engines and so forth. However, when it comes to everyday opinions on subjects such as politics, sports, the economy and other topics, everyone has a right to their opinion. People who lack self-confidence often allow those with louder voices to control situations.
This doesn’t mean you have to get into loud arguments with people. The important thing is to remember that your point of view is as valid as anyone’s.
Don’t feel obligated to do something just because someone asks you. This isn’t about situations where you’ve agreed to do what you’re told, such as a job, if you’re in the military or taking a class. This is about people who constantly ask you for favors, to borrow money, or to get you to do things you’d rather not. It’s great to help people out, but if it’s clear they are taking advantage of you, learn how to say no!
These are just a few simple tips that can help you to improve confidence in your everyday life.
Find out how you can be more powerful, decisive and improve confidence in a way that will last!

Bashar on Being You
Filed under law of attractionJul 19This video by Bashar packs many ideas into ten minutes or so. Many Law of Attraction teachers have referred to this notion, that abundance is something you have to feel in yourself before you can experience it in the outside world. And, to make it even trickier, you can’t try to make yourself feel a certain way in order to get a future result. It has to be an end in itself. Abraham says similar things.
This quote from the video is especially good:
“When you learn that you can do more with less, you will then be able to do less and get more.” -Bashar

Zero Limits by Joe Vitale
Filed under law of attractionJul 17Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More [Unabridged 6-CD Set]
Overall Rating:Retail Price: Varies based on product options Amazon Price: $27.94 Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More
Zero Limits is a result of self-improvement guru Dr. Joe Vitale’s collaboration with Dr. Hew Len (that’s the short version of his name, which is what I’ll stick with!), a modern practitioner of the Hawaiian healing system known as Ho’oponopono. Joe Vitale is best known for his participation in The Secret video, but he’s written a large number of books on motivation, sales and attracting wealth.
This book is not about a system of traditional Hawaiian shamanism, which is what I originally thought it was. Apparently Ho’oponopono has roots in older shamanistic traditions, but has been modernized, first by a woman shaman named Morrnah and later by Hew Len and others. As I sift through various reviews of this book, I realize, sadly, that there is a great deal of controversy around not only the book, but of the “authenticity” of the system Dr. Len is teaching.
It’s a sad thing, but this story is repeated over and over again in various spiritual traditions that have been modernized or reconfigured. People argue over who is giving the “true teachings” and who has sold out for materialistic gain. It must be said that if you are sensitive to materialism, you may want to avoid Joe Vitale as he is an unapologetic marketer. Indeed, one of the main criticisms of this book is that it’s full of barely concealed promotions for his other books, courses and websites. Furthermore, many of the most enthusiastic testimonials in the book are also given website links to promote their businesses, which sometimes overlap with Vitale’s.
After all that, I still there is quite a bit of value in Zero Limits! When it comes down to it, issues such as “authenticity” and even “materialism” are beside the point. I always put the word “authenticity” in quotes, because the whole idea of an authentic tradition of any kind is probably a myth. All religions and spiritual traditions have been influenced by what came before, and they all change, evolve or are “distorted,” depending on your point of view.
As for materialism, the same charges that were leveled against The Secret are made against Zero Limits. The fact is, you can use spiritual principles for any goals. Most people on planet Earth spend a lot of time thinking about material issues, so it’s easiest to focus on these. It’s easier to show, for example, that you can manifest a new car than to prove that you’ve achieved “Enlightenment” (whatever that means).
The essence of the system taught by Dr. Len is about taking complete responsibility for everything that happens in your life. This is a fairly common theme in spirituality, but here it’s taken to a new extreme. According to the Zero Limits system, anything you encounter or even hear about becomes your responsibility, so it’s up to you to clear, or “clean” it from yourself. This is done in a number of ways (Vitale reminds us that to really learn the whole system, we have to sign up for the course, more materialism!). However, the most important technique seems to be repeating several phrases over and over: “I love you,” “I’m sorry,” “Please forgive me,” and “Thank you.”
When you consider the above, it’s hard to see how this system is materialistic at it’s core. It’s actually a fairly radical type of mysticism, where we are asked to constantly remember the Oneness of everything. This is actually the “Zero” in the title, similar to the Void of Buddhism.
This is a simple but profound spiritual technique that has apparently helped many people. Whether it’s “authentic” or not, or whether Len and Vitale are getting rich from it are, to me, not especially relevant questions. One thing I will mention is that, apart from the terminology, it’s not “original,” but then what is? In particular, anyone familiar with the Sedona Method will recognize the emphasis on letting go, or clearing. Whereas the Sedona Method avoids spiritual terminology or references to the Divine, Ho’oponopono openly embraces these. So it’s a question of what you are comfortable with.
Zero Limits is a good book to read before deciding whether you feel you need, or want to pursue this course of study further.

What the Bleep Do We Know and its Critics
Filed under quantum physics and spirituality, spiritual moviesFeb 13What the Bleep Do We Know? is familiar to many people by now. However, if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it as an informative and inspiring message about how quantum physics relates to spirituality.
There has been a fairly vocal backlash against this movie by rationalist, “skeptic” types who automatically discredit anything that is outside the mainstream scientific paradigm. The criticisms general focus on two factors. First, that not all quantum physicists agree with the What the Bleep interpretation of their science. This is true. The fact is, there is no consensus about what quantum physics means as far as metaphysics or spirituality goes. There are almost as many theories as there are physicists.
Granted, What the Bleep is simply giving us one interpretation. If you believe that there is some wisdom and validity to the spiritual traditions from around the world, such as Eastern religions and shamanism (which actually existed almost everywhere at one time), then you will likely tend to be convinced that a system that reconciles spirituality and science has some validity. If, on the other hand, you are a hardcore rationalist, skeptic or secular humanist, you will be inclined to dismiss it all as superstition and bunk. This, to me, is a very arrogant attitude, as it really says that human beings were completely ignorant for tens of thousands of years and it wasn’t until the 18th or 19th centuries that we learned what was really true.
The other criticism that is commonly hurled at What the Bleep is its alleged connection to the Ramtha “cult.” J.Z. Knight channels an entity called Ramtha, and is one of the featured speakers in the film. However, Ramtha is never mentioned, nor is any organization that promotes “him.” So charges that the film is a kind of commercial for Ramtha are highly exaggerated, at best. The fact is, whatever you may think of Ramtha or J.Z. Knight, the information she quotes in What the Bleep is not unique to Ramtha, and is consistent with many spiritual traditions.
There is now an updated version of the film, called Down the Rabbit Hole. It is not really new, but a version that randomly mixes the scenes, which can be considered consistent with the “quantum” message. There may also be additional interviews in this version.

How can you best apply the law of attraction to health, weight loss and similar issues related to the body? While this is certainly discussed in books and movies such as The Secret, the focus with the law of attraction is usually money and how to attract material things such as a car, house or new job. The other area that most concerns people, of course, is relationships. Here, however, let’s really narrow our focus to physical issues.
One difference between attracting health as opposed to money, material objects or relationships is that people tend to think of good health as the absence of disease. If you “have” a disease, you want to get rid of it. With weight loss, this is even more obvious. You have “extra” weight that you want to lose.
If you have studied the law of attraction at all, especially through teachers such as Abraham, you may remember that it must be applied in a positive way. You cannot use the law of attraction to repel or get rid of anything, because you attract what you think about. Therefore, if you think about an illness, something that causes you pain or unwanted weight, you will only perpetuate it.
This means that a shift in focus is essential. You have to imagine the desired outcome, whether it’s feeling better, having more energy or looking in the mirror and seeing yourself at your ideal weight. If you use affirmations, they should always be stated or written in a positive way. For example, say “I now see myself at my perfect weight,” or, “I feel healthy, energetic and vital.”
Another powerful tool is using a vision board, which can be either a collage of pictures or photos on paper or a virtual vision board on your computer. This technique actually gets around the rational mind’s tendency to be negative. You would not, for instance, have pictures of an overweight or sick looking person on your vision board! Some people take head shots of themselves and superimpose them on a body that is closer to how they want to look. You can also use symbols of health, such as natural scenes or animals that embody some quality you desire.
You can also use the law of attraction to help motivate you when it comes to diet and exercise. Visualizing your desired outcome makes exercise much more effective. When you eat, imagine the food providing you with maximum nourishment. This is related to the ancient custom of blessing your food.
The law of attraction can be used in any area of your life. When it comes to health and weight loss, you mainly have to remember to keep thinking about what you want!
